Rural teen Tsog has grown up in a loveless, broken home with his alcoholic father and bitter stepmother. After one senseless fight too many he runs away from home and settles on the rooftop of a city apartment in the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator. There he becomes obsessed with a young woman living in a top floor flat. In an attempt to connect with her he steals a remote control and starts to control her TV from his rooftop.
Mongolian cinema has started to be watched more in the west in recent years (The Story of the Weeping Camel, The Cave of the Yellow Dog) and if directors as interesting as Byamba Sakhya start to emerge then it’s an exciting time for this incredible part of the world.
