This exquisite black and white biopic follows the true story of Papusza, the first and only Roma woman to put her poems into writing and have them published. From a young age she was marked as different having defied her family’s wishes to learn to read and write. In 1949 Polish Poet Jerzy Ficowski would meet Papusza and discover her talent. But the publication of her works would only lead to tragedy as she is rejected by her Roma community and cast out into poverty for challenging the traditional image of the Roma female and betraying their secrets.

Papusza has won awards from film festivals all around the world. It is a powerful and intelligent film from the directors of My Nikifor and Saviour Square.
